A Glimpse of the Past

January 8, 2011

Sometimes when we go out for the day I might leave my camera at home (sshh, don’t tell anyone though).  But yesterday I needed some inspiration so I took along my camera and I was so glad I did because I came across this little place that just begged to be photographed.  Ornate fences, heaps of pubs and churches and a main street wide enough to fit a loaded bullock team with plenty of room to spare.  Those days of travelling are long gone but a little slice of history remains to tell the story.  The shop windows are framed with brass and pretty leadlight glass (albeit very dusty) spells out the storekeeper’s name.  Old signs and pressed tin ceilings point to once prosperous trading and although the streets are deserted and the bygone times of a bustling township are but childhood memories in the minds of the older generation, I’m glad these things remain as a record of the rich history of a past era.

I met some locals, Harley (y’know, as in Davidson) and Chris, and they were happy to pose for my camera.  Thanks guys!

Barmedman! We still talk of a half day, 35 yrs ago, we spent at Barmedman enjoying an anniversary parade, with Uncle Henry and Auntie Irene.
These photos are precious, as are the subjects. ‘…and the ghosts of other days, come marching back tonight.’
